About

Originally from Southampton, Jerry studied at Portsmouth College of Art and then at the University of Portsmouth.

Jerry Smith

Following a degree in computer graphics he spent several years working in the video games industry, before going freelance and running his own creative media business with partner and fellow artist Vanessa Wells.

In 2008 they moved to the Hampshire village of Swanmore where Jerry now uses their garage as a studio and temporary exhibition space.

Jerry paints in a vivid representational style driven by a passion for detail which has always been evident in his work.

He is often drawn to the subtle light and shadows cast across the rural landscape, especially on sunny winter days.

The local Meon Valley landscape is a constant source of inspiration and Jerry continues to take hundreds of reference photographs across the changing seasons.

He also makes mixed media sketches to explore compositions and colour schemes before starting a new canvas.

Sketchbook

Jerry has always enjoyed being outdoors and walking in the countryside, gaining inspiration from other views around the British Isles, especially Cornwall, The Lake District and the Isle of Skye.
